| 7 July 2003 Sad news ! My ANT 20 is no more. Wrecked at Chester , 22 June. I took 4 models to Chester. All had flown several times in the previous 2 weeks, with no problems. I flew the ANT at midday; a busy time on the flightline. Two severe glitches on the first circuit persuaded me to land. It transpired that adjacent frequencies were having similar problems, but investigations revealed no reason. The fatal flight was at 4.30pm. Tx control had closed down. No-one else was flying. I did a range check. Take-off and first circuit were normal. Then the death-dive; no control response during the brief descent. I have had about 20 flights in the subsequent 2 weeks, with no control problems. I wish I knew the cause. I have filled a page with possible reasons, but I can see no prime suspect. It's not my first catastrophe, and it won't be my last! It confirms me in the opinion that I shouldn't invest too much of my life in any one model.
Back to the Chester meeting. Large attendance. Good weather (again !); wind 8 - 12mph. Peter Wilson's Vampire performing impressively, as usual. Mike Paine's Swordfish appearing at last; very nice too. Lots more good flying by modellers I can't put names to. (A few years ago you knew everybody there)
The Blackburn club held a 3-day meeting on the same weekend as Chester. I flew some 13year-old glo models on the Saturday. A pleasant doo.
