News 10 June 2005 The weather for the Blackpool electric day, May 29, was bright and breezy. Many good models and lots of excellent flying. I flew the Lancastrian, Sunderland, and Canberra. The baby B17 in the picture has just been returned to active service. It was made twenty years ago, and retired after ten years flying. It survived a major failure on its third [recent] flight; all six hinges [figure 8, sewing thread] on the elevator separated. My DH 88 has had a couple of flights, but again, it is proving difficult. It's now back on the repair shelf. Other models flown: Valiant....EE Lightning.....SeaMaster....Lancaster....H6k....B52. It seems that the change to Shulze receivers has solved my glitching problems, so I'm anticipating a more-enjoyable flying season. This receiver needs a 40" antenna. I don't like to see a trailing wire, so I am trying an almost-invisible single-strand of .011" diameter copper. Seems to work OK. |
