VICKERS-ARMSTRONGS   VALIANT

First flight 1997....span 47"....41oz....15 oz per sq ft....2 * speed400/6....Gunther 125*110....7 Panasonic2000....all balsa....

What an elegant aeroplane! The white service aircraft had a brown nose radome which spoiled their appearance, but the eight 'planes prepared for the Christmas Island H-bomb trials were all-white, so I've modelled one of those.

Originally, the model was controlled by elevator and rudder. It flew OK, but despite the low wing loading it had to be launched very fast to avoid severe roll oscillations. Cured by replacing rudder with ailerons. The Kevlar closed-loop system made for an easy retro-fit.
